From Chalkboards to Chatbots: Reimagining the Teaching of Romantic Poetry in the Age of AI
Name of Author :
Dr.P.Parthiban
Abstract:
The teaching of English Romantic poetry has traditionally relied on the delicate interpretation and emotional engagement facilitated by human educators. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, there is a growing interest in exploring whether AI can emulate, supplement, or even replace the role of human teachers in this complex literary domain. This article examines the comparative strengths and limitations of human and AI teaching methods, using the poetry of the English Romantics, especially William Wordsworth and Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats, as illustrative case studies. Drawing on recent research, classroom observations, and the current capabilities of AI powered educational tools, this article argues for a balanced, integrative approach that recognizes the irreplaceable qualities of human teaching while embracing the efficiency and accessibility offered by AI. The discussion includes theoretical perspectives, pedagogical strategies, and recommendations for future practice, aiming to inform both educators and educational technologists about the evolving landscape of literary instruction.
