Gendered Dimensions of Socioeconomic Mobility in A Place Called Home
Name of Author :
Mrs. A. Archana & Dr. E. Anita
Abstract:
This paper examines the ways gender complicates socioeconomic mobility in Preeti Shenoys novel A Place Called Home. Through the protagonist Alka, the novel exposes how social climb for lower class women is often restricted by patriarchal norms, affective labour, and control over bodies. Based on feminist theory and sociological perspectives, the paper problematizes how class and gender intersect and impinge on Alkas lived experience.
