MEMORY, VOICE AND FEMALE IDENTITY IN C.S.LAKSHMIS A RED NECKED GREEN BIRD
Name of Author :
A.Vasantha, K. Vimaladevi
Abstract:
In A Red Necked Green Bird, C. S. Lakshmi delivers a series of interconnected stories that delve into the lived experiences of women in contemporary India, focusing on the tension between individual identity and societal expectations. Domestic spaces and everyday journeys into significant sites of political and emotional struggle, Ambai portrays her protagonists as they navigate the complexities of patriarchy, aging, and art. Her narrative style marked by lyrical symbolism and a non linear approach reclaims silenced histories and uses memory as a catalyst for resistance. The collection centers on the red-necked green bird as a metaphor for the enduring spirit of liberation, celebrating the creative strength and autonomy women exercise in their pursuit of a self defined voice. It is a collection of thirteen short stories
