AN ATTEMPT TO DEPICT GRIEF IN THE FAULT IN OUR STARS BY JOHN GREEN
Name of Author :
K. Yuvarani, V. Hemalatha
Abstract:
Grief is a central emotional and thematic concern in John Greens The Fault in Our Stars. The novel presents grief not merely as a reaction to death but as an ongoing psychological and emotional condition shaped by love, illness, anticipation, and memory. This article attempts to depict grief as represented through the experiences of Hazel Grace Lancaster, Augustus Waters, and their parents. By analyzing anticipatory grief, parental grief, survivor grief, and the fear of being a burden, the study demonstrates how Green portrays grief as non linear, intimate, and transformative. The novel emphasizes that grief is inseparable from love and that emotional pain is an inevitable consequence of a deep human connection.
